Yeasts for Beer are generally available in two variants, liquid or dried, and they are also classified in two main categories, "top-cropping" (or "top-fermenting") and "bottom-cropping" (or "bottom-fermenting"). Dried yeasts are sold in convenient sachets and they do not show any preservation problem, they are almost available for all beer styles. Liquid yeasts by White Labs are sold in vials, they must be stored in the fridge, compared to dried yeasts they are available both as lager-type and as ale-type but also as weiss-type for wheat beers; another peculiarity of liquid yeasts is that they are specifically produced for the different beerstyles, so there is more choice for specific targets.
